02:43 pm - Whoa.
It's been over 8 months since I last posted... or even been here. Looks like almost everyone moved on to other things.
Doom.

12:41 pm - 7,107 and Black Plague: Published
Two poems of mine were published by Edinburgh, UK-based publication Read This Magazine. You can read 7,107 here, just scroll down a little bit. Black Plague is being featured in their print-volume and I should receive a free copy sometime soon.

06:48 pm - Morningtide Release
I played at the Morningtide Release tournament yesterday at HeeBeeGeeBeez. Sealed deck and all that jazz... fun stuff... some hard opponents, but I managed to place 4th.
And you wouldn't believe how difficult it is to find parking in Ogden when there's snow everywhere... especially snow piled up by the curbs from the plows!

08:26 pm - Grindhouse
Just barely watched both of the Grindhouse features: Death Proof and Planet Terror. Both were really good and I don't know which I like better!
Loved the dialogue of Death Proof and the chase scene was just awesome. Planet Terror had an interesting take on the whole zombie movie genre... just intense all around. Awesome characters too from both films.

09:50 am - Near-death.
I never really know what to say during times of chaos and sadness.
I picked up my friend and coworker, Phoenix, for work. While waiting, I was petting Lexie, her curious dog (which is siblings with Bronē through a previous litter), and then left like normal. We've been making plans to get drunk and have the dogs play with each other at her place later today. She was stressed out (as usual) about work, also having lost her locker keys somewhere (she ended up putting her stuff in my locker). She also lost her name and ID badge the other day. Funny, funny.
Anyway, at work while I was pulling product for the sales floor in grocery, Phoenix comes up to my aisle and tells me to walk with her. This is odd because she works in the other side of the store. Quickly, she tells me that her dog was just hit by a car; apparently, her boyfriend let the dog out for some reason and she bolted into the street, promptly getting struck. Her eyes were all watery as we headed to the front of the store and by the quivering of her voice, I could tell she was doing her best not to bawl for everyone to see.
Her boyfriend, apparently, did not know what to do, simply saying that she's lying in the street with blood everywhere. All I could do was listen, unable to say anything as she professed not knowing what to do if she died. I didn't want to give her false hope that "everything will be okay." After she got her keys from my locker, all I could say was "run."
I went back to work, obviously stressed, hoping that her dog was okay. Phoenix also had a good 10-15 minute run back to her house since she didn't have a car. I wondered if she just let herself go and cry the whole way there. I probably would.
At break, Jamie was upset because Phoenix left early. I explained that her dog was just hit by a car. All she did was scoff in response and profess that the "dog better have a funeral then." I told her to calm down. Brent, her at-work "boyfriend," then made fun of the situation, saying that maybe he can leave early too because his neighbor's house across the street was struck by a trailer recently and he was emotionally unable to work. He also said that if he had a dog and it got hit while he was at work, he would continue working—no problem. They all had a good laugh and kept making little of the situation. What assholes. I even told this to our Team Leader, Courtney.
Anyway... at lunch, I finally get a text message saying that Lexie was still alive, but her legs were all messed up. I still need to talk to Phoenix about the extent of Lexie's injuries and such. Hopefully nothing was too bad.
What bothers me is how antipathetic people can get. Seriously, why make fun of someone whose dog just got hit by a car? Why?

07:39 pm - Work Confrontations Episode Deux
Work was murder due to a 12-hour shift. Phoenix and I tried staying upbeat about it the whole day... so much that Brad thought we were only goofing around even though we back-stocked a few pallets and several carts.
I got into a confrontation with someone 10-hours into the shift. It was small. This guy named Jeremy from the push team was just standing around waiting for his partner (who was also his brother, named Josh) to finish back-stocking some boxes. I told him that since he's waiting, he should label all the boxes. He basically told me that he'll do it his way and that he already labeled some. But the whole pallet wasn't done, which I indicated. He got mad, looking teary-eyed and upset. I said we could talk to Steve (the Team Leader) about it. "Are you 30 years old or something..." was his response and then he told me to "Get a fucking life." The whole time, Josh was giving me a look. I wondered if he was automatically siding with his brother due to their relation or if he was thinking about how much of an idiot he was being.
I immediately called Bradley (the Executive (higher than a Team Lead) and told him what happened. He said he'd talk to him. I went back to work on the pallet of groceries I was working on and Jeremy, in the background, kept calling out "Where's Steve, huh? Where's Steve?!"
I stopped working and talked to Bradley personally and us three had a sit-down in the office. Jeremy was trying to play it all cool, saying that "nothing was wrong," but by the tone of his voice and his stiff body-language, one could tell that he was upset.
I was calm the whole time and explained my side of the story. Jeremy automatically tried to make me look bad by implying I was making a big deal out of nothing. I mentioned him cussing me out and I purposefully mentioned him looking like he was about to cry (just to embarrass him).
Bradley did his best to be neutral about things, saying we should just calm down and avoid each other. But he criticized Jeremy, saying that he wasn't calm and that I was and that he was supposed to listen to the backroom team members when in their area. When we left, Bradley mentioned how it was clear from talking to Jeremy that "something was up."
Afterward, I talked to Phoenix and Brad about this and they had their own horror deal going on in their side of the backroom because some of the pull team members were not working and were talking back. Brad spoke to Bradley as well.
It was one hectic day. But at least I made about $120 for the Christmas season in one day! Well... after tax, it's only about $90. Damn you, taxes!

05:22 pm - Filling-death.
A piece of a filling popped out when I flossed today! Ohnoes! And I left my mother's insurance plan a week ago... hahaha... it's funny how things like this happen. Hopefully it won't be too bad! Eep!

03:04 pm - Saw IV!
Just got back from Saw IV. I loved it. God... just a surprise ending again!
12:27 am - mewithoutyou, Thrice, and Brand New
Just got back from a concert at the SaltAir. I went with Erich and Isaac, but when we arrived, we only caught the end of mewithoutyou's set! [sad face]
Thrice quickly came on stage (a surprisingly short set-up time!) and practically blew me away. I loved both the heavy songs and the softer songs. Keyboards and vocal effects thing-a-ma-bobber were nice, too.
Brand New came on next and did their thing (well, I assure you (the two drummer thing + mega bass drum part was awesome), but I hung out back away from the concentrated crowds. I liked them, but they began playing very mellow songs for the last 30 minutes and I was already falling asleep from fighting off the crowd during Thrice.
I got mewithoutyou's latest album, Thrice's new two-disc album, and Brand New's last two albums. Plus, I got a Thrice shirt (I normally don't get shirts) and a Thrice sticker/pin pack.
Nice to see you Steph! I lost you, though, because everyone got swallowed by the mass of people! Eep!
